Tuesday Music: My iPod

by: Shahryar

Tue Feb 23, 2010 at 19:25:26 PM EST

Taking a break from the chronological review of the pop world, here's a glimpse of my iPod. It's chock full of 50s and 60s stuff. I put it on shuffle and listed what came up. Some of these might be repeats but they're goodies so here we go!
Shahryar :: Tuesday Music: My iPod
The Hollies made it to the Hall of Fame. Took long enough! Allan Clarke, the lead singer, had an affair with Marianne Faithfull way back when, as she relates the story in her autobiography. Her biggest complaint seems to have been keeping quiet when his wife showed up.

After the Beach Boys car and surfer phases were over they moved to odder music, like this one. From the Wild Honey album. Check it out if you haven't heard it. It's a classic.

These youngsters were even more popular than the Big Three or Faron's Flamingos, to name a couple of other Liverpool groups of the day.

"Uh, hi Dad"..."uh, hi, Rick".."uh, hey Dad, is it alright if I invite some of the kids over Saturday night?"..."uh, I guess so, but you better ask your mother"..."uh, ok, Dad"

More of The Move. Hooray! One of my favorite unheralded bands of the 60s.

Speaking of popular, this "cat" could really move the crowd. If it had been Elvis and not Buddy who perished in 1959 we'd always imagine a more glorious career for The King than what actually happened.

And who doesn't love a good double suicide song? This is probably the best of the genre!

I love this Conway Twitty song. My band covered this in our shows. So moody!

Hank Ballard was a sweet guy. I met him briefly in the 80s and thought he was kind and generous. And he could rock, too!

I was trying to decide between this and Substitute. I liked the Substitute video because Roger's shirt was so cool!! But I like this song better.

well, lots more on my list but that's enough for today!

just because I got more excited about this... (3.00 / 4)
than the music of 1989/1990. Was there any then? The late 80s, early 90s was full of groups with names that sounded like they pulled nouns out of a hat and stuck them together. Fishchair, things like that.

Anyway, this iPod thing, I love to strap it on my head and listen to these songs when I work in the yard or when I'm vacuuming. I can go for hours!

Love this collection.. (3.00 / 4)
and you've convinced me I ought to look into one of those ipod thingies...

Growing up when we did (okay, I'm a bit older, but..) prepared us for losing some good ones way too soon.  What would music be like if Buddy Holly had lived?  hummm

And here's another one I really miss.  He was just in the process of breaking away from the 'teen idol' and moving into some really good music.  However, I have to confess, I do love his version of this song:

 warthogs from hell
BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i interviewed him shortly before (3.00 / 1)
his plane crash. freaky it was . . .

Yeah , Substitute (3.00 / 3)
Anyway, others will lead ya to the brink of suicide as well.  Didn't know who that young lady was, so searched (be careful when googling 'dream babes) there are at least EIGHT (8) volumes of the Brit Pop Darlings.  This one is horrible, so I thought I'd share.

Anomalies have been observed.

yeh, thanks for that (3.00 / 2)
boy she seems awfully upset!

don't Morecambe and Wise remind you of Rowan and Martin? I think the English have this bizarre fascination with America and come up with odd copies. Margaret Thatcher becomes just like Reagan. Tony Blair becomes just like Clinton and then, wait a minute, he changes into just like Bush.

We've got boy bands? England will get boy bands. Justin Timberlake goes solo? Robbie Williams will go solo! Rowan and Martin have a show and wear some nutty outfits? Morecambe and Wise will do the same.

And everything (3.00 / 2)
old is new again..

 warthogs from hell
BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No idea when this is from.. (3.00 / 3)
but since you're doing favorites... here's one of mine:

 warthogs from hell
BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

goose bumps for the performers (3.00 / 2)
I love it when the crowd takes over the singing. It's so communal!

Great set.
Elvis, was just a boy then, but he sure had the moves.
