we are astounded at the voting patterns of many of our fellow americans and the standard question: don't they know they're voting against their own interests?

well, if it were only that simple. apparently, belief is more important and they seem (to me) to vote for those who reinforce their beliefs.

the eye-opener is that democrats are no different. i thought we were (when I was one of them). but is the same affliction. just different flavors.

Simplify.

Sad, isn't it.  And I agree that some Dems are just as guilty.. but I wouldn't go so far as to say all or even most.  I think the reality is that there are stupid and uninformed people on both sides but there surely does appear to be a boat load more un and misinformed people on the right.

Demonstrators outside the U.S. Capitol , angry over the proposed health care bill, shouted "nigger" Saturday at U.S. Rep. John Lewis , a Georgia congressman and civil rights icon who was nearly beaten to death during an Alabama march in the 1960s.

The protesters also shouted obscenities at other members of the Congressional Black Caucus , lawmakers said.

"They were shouting, sort of harassing," Lewis said. "But, it's okay, I've faced this before. It reminded me of the 60s. It was a lot of downright hate and anger and people being downright mean."  more
