I was giggling so much at Tariq wanting us to stay in Iraq, I didn't even get to his support for 'doing something ' about Iran.

"Now Iran is building a weapons programme. Everybody knows it and nobody is doing anything. Why?"

So does this mean we should triple reverse and not bomb Iran?

I'm sorry Groucho, but Tariq ....

Reading (2.00 / 2)
(and listening to) this is like a mini-vacation.  Great stuff, nc!

I especially liked the primer on how not to conduct an interview.  But Lara's Theme on accordion?  That is just wrong on soooo many levels...

yes, Lara was (2.00 / 2)
just for you.

gosh... (2.00 / 2)
I, um, really, ah... not sure how to thank (?) you..

Sweet round up here nc (2.00 / 2)
Good musica too.

Trending

did somebody say "Dr. Feelgood"? (2.00 / 1)
here's a song of that name by Gerry Levene and the Avengers from...oh...1963? 1964?

"They're all crooks!" - Shahryar

hey, lookee who was in that band (2.00 / 2)
I didn't know until just now...

Graeme Edge, drummer for the Moody Blues and Roy Wood, who was in the Move.

Well that would explain why I like it.

Once a man of taste (2.00 / 1)
and distinction always a man of.....

How you doing, Shah?

The government does not run on unicorn kisses and/or butterfly farts.

[ Parent ]
well, since you ask.... (2.00 / 2)
I'm feeling like the whole thing is fixed. Not very original, I know. What if.....

What if Bush had called off elections and was still President?

What if Bush, now President for Life, had pushed through a bill that was a huge money-maker for insurance companies and called it "Health Care Reform"?

What if Bush were dragging his feet getting out of Iraq and had expanded the war in Afghanistan with no end in sight?

What if Bush had authorized the assassination of American citizens?

What if Bush's Chief of Staff had called lefties "F***ing retards"?

What if the Bush Administration went along with BP saying "the oil's all gone now"?

etc....

Our President is definitely a better speaker and seems a lot smarter but it's funny how we're getting ye same olde, same olde.

So I've been dropping out of national politics except for the opportunities it gives me to make wisecracks. I'm looking at the local situation, starting with my house, then my block, then the intersection at the end of the block and down to the stores. That's my world these days, pretty much all I care about beside my hobbies (music and fun).

All in all, pretty good!

"They're all crooks!" - Shahryar

Oddly enough I find myself (2.00 / 2)
knowing (and agreeing) with what you've said.   I was away awhile ago and fell behind on the newspapers.. know what I discovered?  It's really cool to be a week behind.. I can skip all the 'need to know' stuff because it's already outdated and settled one way or the other by the time I get to it and I'm much happier.  Way less frustrating... the tricky part has been doing the BNN.. and you've probably noticed what they no longer contain.  Can't speak for others, but I'm with you... looking closer to home and doing what I can and letting go that which I can't do anything about.  I believe this is called 'burnout'... and I'm not ashamed about it at all... just learning to live with disappointment on the state and federal level.

fwiw:  Be careful what you wish for....

But, I am happy to have you back and hope you'll keep your great comments coming.

I wish I weren't addicted to news (2.00 / 2)
either on tv or on the 'net. If you can call it news! I think I get more news from here or dKos or Eschaton or HuffPo than from traditional sources. But I like the idea of unplugging for awhile. Maybe after the mid-terms. I'm involved, work-wise, in polling so I can't stop until Novemeber whatever-it-is-this-year. But after that, a nice beach trip with my lovely esposa would be ideal.

Sounds like your week without the stress was a clue for us all.

It worked wonders (2.00 / 2)
and now I'm getting ready to head out shortly in the RV for 3 weeks or so... will to be unplugged for some of that time.. expect to miss you all here, but otherwise looking forward to it.

You can come along (2.00 / 1)
if you wish... there will be pretty cars to look at, you could meet Badger5, maybe help us swat mosquitoes... it'll be fun... oh and isn't German food sorta like Polish food?.. there'll be lots of that too, also.

what weirds me out (2.00 / 2)
is that there is NO (as far as I can tell) overlap in what WE think is bad, disappointing, or crazy about Barack and the D's and what the wingers think.

Glenn G. and Krugman et al. do a good job of keeping us reminded of the failings, and despite the relative lack of open bashing here, I think we're all painfully aware of them.

For me, it's just more fun to point to the winger craziness. I'm biased.
There, I said it.

T-L SOTB

[ Parent ]
That's because (2.00 / 1)
it's just more fun to point to the winger craziness

the wingers are really really funny..

and isn't it odd that the rw thinks Obama has gone too far and we all think he hasn't gone anywhere near far enough..

The government does not run on unicorn kisses and/or butterfly farts.

[ Parent ]
I don't know if the rws know what to think (2.00 / 1)
there are the con men who sit up late at night to devise their newest absurdity. "How can I top that last one?" they wonder. Then they invent something even more ridiculous and get in front of a camera or microphone and send it out to some really dumb, gullible people who can't think it through for themselves.

So some of them, the ones making money off of it, don't even believe the stuff they're saying, or are insane, and the others believe it only because someone said so.

It's like a window into some previous stage of evolution.

"They're all crooks!" - Shahryar

[ Parent ]
You've summed it up (2.00 / 1)
perfectly, Shah.. which is why I now ask wingers to give me examples of whateverinhell talking point they spout.  Funny thing is, so far I've not heard any come-back... but do have a few (hopefully soon to be former) wingers thinking.  Far as I'm concerned that's  a great start.  First get them to question.. the rest is easy.

Shaha! So that's why (2.00 / 2)
'I Know You're Out There Somewhere' was on the YT list.
(yuch, hate it.)

Great name that posted that jimmytheferret.

That one video will take you on a voyage.  Gerry was also in Crossbones.

Is that a wah pedal?whammy bar? keyboard?

and an argument over versions of same.  And there's about 1000 other groups that did it.

and lots of other stuff posted by blightytater

Great funky version of the Delaney & Bonnie track.

and Jon and Robin also did

'Dr. Jon (The Medicine Man)' and we're back where we started.

I think that's a wah wah pedal (2.00 / 2)
and he turned it off at the end (2:15 mark) when he starts using the whammy bar. I think...maybe.
