GOP hires ex-solicitor general to defend federal same-sex marriage ban

House Republicans have hired former solicitor general Paul D. Clement to handle the legal defense of the federal government's law banning the recognition of same-sex marriage, and they want the Justice Department to pick up the legal expenses.

However, lookie here..

Majority of those surveyed in CNN poll support same-sex marriage

A new CNN poll shows that a majority of respondents say they support same-sex marriage, marking the first time in CNN polling that the percentage of those backing same-sex marriage has topped 50 percent.

Fifty-one percent of those polled by CNN said they believe same-sex marriage should be recognized as valid by the law, while 47 percent said they think it should not be recognized as valid; 2 percent had no opinion.

And finally... hoo boy, all bets are off..

Dan Liljenquist, dark horse to take down Hatch

Entitlement reform is on the lips of every Republican politician these days, and that's good news for Utah state Sen. Dan Liljenquist.

His party's leadership picked the first-term legislator to reform the state pension system last year. The plan he came up with - along with the methodical way he crafted it - won accolades even from his political opponents. A year later he took on Medicaid reform, with similar results. Now, Liljenquist is preparing a likely primary campaign against Sen. Orrin Hatch (R) in 2012, in his short political career he has two solid achievements to run on.

Free thought here... there is a huge group of southerners (texas included) who are looking to re-fight the civil war.. but it occurs to me that things aren't the way they were 150 years ago.. as in.. what do we suppose the actual percentage of real southerns versus snowbirds and retirees from the northern climes actually is.
