It's Wednesday again ~ BNN

From the news ticker (which I've been trying to avoid, so here goes nothing)

Los Alamos nuclear lab under siege from wildfire

A wildfire near the desert birthplace of the atomic bomb advanced on the Los Alamos laboratory and thousands of outdoor drums of plutonium-contaminated waste Tuesday as authorities stepped up efforts to protect the site and monitor the air for radiation.

Officials at the nation's premier nuclear-weapons lab gave assurances that dangerous materials were safely stored and capable of withstanding flames from the 95-square-mile fire, which at one point was as close as 50 feet from the grounds.

Nothing to worry about here.. move right along.

Kabul police: 10 Afghans killed in hotel attack

The death toll in the attack on an international hotel in Kabul has risen to 10.

Kabul Police Chief Gen. Mohammad Ayub Salangi said Wednesday that 10 Afghan civilians - mostly hotel workers - died when heavily armed Taliban fighters stormed the Inter-Continental and fought security forces for more than four hours.

I'll go along with this when they give up their government medical insurance too...

Coburn, Lieberman seek to raise Medicare age to 67

Two Senate rebels jumped into Congress' cut-the-deficit competition on Tuesday, proposing to raise the age of Medicare eligibility to 67 and increase monthly premiums for millions of current beneficiaries.

"We can't save Medicare as we know it," said Sen. Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., who authored the plan with Republican Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma. "We can only save Medicare if we change it," he added in an apparent jab at President Barack Obama and congressional Democrats.

THE VIEW FROM MOUNT EVEREST:

360 DEGREES

When you see the panorama, click the icon on the top right corner to make the image full-screen!

This fullscreen panorama was published in connection with the 50 year anniversary in May 2003, for the first who reached the top of Everest.
50 years ago May 29 1953 The top of Mount Everest was reached for the first time by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay.
Since then 1.200-1.500 have climbed to the top. Nobody knows the exact number. More than 140 climbers died on the way.

On May 24, 1989 the Australian photographer and mountaineer Roderick Mackenzie reached the summit. He was no 271 since 1953
He made , as far as I know, is the only 360 degree panorama From the top.
Roderick Mackenzie made the image at the top of Mount Everest on May 24 1989.

WHHEEEEEEEEE (2.00 / 2)
no snakes up there either.

Was looking for maps to compare the current Los Alamos fire with the 2000 one but none of the fuckers has similar scales, or even similar kinds of maps.
