Finally cooled a bit here, out of the 70's anyway. Sure has been one warm ass winter. I think I've put my jacket on less than 5 times so far in the mornings. Usually wear it pretty much from late Dec to mid Feb.
Whats going on out there? Trending
me, I'm just hanging in....cooler here, too, like 5 degrees F, which is pure silly....even superskispouse is ready for some springitation.
Found another 'Freddie' YT in Bb [they mention that that lp upload is a little quick] so I can just use the black keys. I love it that the volume of the piano solo is half of what the horns sound like. Fuckers. Hard to tell what kind of comping is going on otherwise....just running through the chords I reckon. Somehow started playing a familiar riff over it.....turns out it was the opening to Satin Doll....WTF?
Anyway, it was more fun than I expected. Doesn't hurt [too much] to be a little familiar with it .
Sambas always make me think of cheezy 60's NY 'sophisticate' comedies....guys in suits and women with pointy bras dancing at some cocktail party...then I start to smirk and lose the real samba feeling. T-L SOTB
my dream is to get good enough to gather with folks who know more or less what they're doing, and just mess around with rock and blues and jazz and whatnot, with no need for extensive rehearsal or formality: when you start paring the tunes down, there's not a huge amount of variation across, or within, the genres, as far as infrastructure goes. the fun part is seeing what people can do, given the framework.
you want I should scan the leadsheets/charts/whatever? I suspect that most of this stuff you can find on-line somewhere, but happy to do it.
not surprised about the satin doll thing: freddie is just 12 bar blues with a couple of goofy accidentals to make davis feel special
latest from guitar teacher is blue bossa. haven't heard or tried it yet
I humbly acknowledge any kudos due to my small, but not insignificant, role in this latest development.
