Obama Calls the GOP's Bluff on Debt Ceiling

In an op-ed, The Washington Post's Eugene Robinson highlights President Obama's approach to dealing with the GOP's bullying tactics over the debt ceiling debate. Robinson maintains that the president's "in-your-face attitude" seems to have thrown Republicans off their stride. Their march to default on the nation's financial obligations came to a screeching halt. The President is not having it or hearing their outrageous demands, but is insisting that they do the right thing and in a timely manner.

From the news ticker (which I've been trying to avoid, so here goes nothing)

Los Alamos nuclear lab under siege from wildfire

A wildfire near the desert birthplace of the atomic bomb advanced on the Los Alamos laboratory and thousands of outdoor drums of plutonium-contaminated waste Tuesday as authorities stepped up efforts to protect the site and monitor the air for radiation.

Officials at the nation's premier nuclear-weapons lab gave assurances that dangerous materials were safely stored and capable of withstanding flames from the 95-square-mile fire, which at one point was as close as 50 feet from the grounds.

Nothing to worry about here.. move right along.

They really don't even try anymore ~ BNN

by: brobin

Tue Jun 28, 2011 at 05:49:21 AM EST

Seriously.  It's become cliche I know, but the fuckin' Republicans don't even try to hide their lies anymore.  They know that the 27 percenters simply do not care if they lie, and in fact they applaud the lies if it gets their ideological candidate more years in office in order to continue to push their medieval agenda.  So, the Republicans just blurt out any old thing they wish, occasionally they get called out by the media a little, and then they rinse and repeat.  And somehow.........  It's Okay.

Sighhhhhhhhh

Arizona Wallow Fire May Hit Power Lines, Cause Blackouts

The massive wildfires raging in Arizona expanded as wind-whipped flames tore through canyons in the eastern mountains, forcing firefighters to retreat from flames that have ripped through the popular vacation town of Greer. Officials ordered the evacuation of two towns and the flames are threatening power supplies, which may lead to rolling blackouts across parts of Texas and New Mexico.

But with all this dry brush and heavy winds firefighters -- who have come to Arizona from as far away as New York -- are facing an uphill battle to bring the blaze under control.

The Rev. Getting Giddy Wednesday ~ BNN

One has to wonder just who this will impact the worst..

House rejects debt limit increase without cuts

House Republicans dealt defeat to their own proposal for a $2.4 trillion increase in the nation's debt limit Tuesday, a political gambit designed to reinforce a demand for spending cuts to accompany any increase in government borrowing.

The vote was lopsided, with just 97 in favor of the measure and 318 against.

House Democrats accused the GOP of political demagoguery, while the Obama administration maneuvered to avoid taking sides - or giving offense to majority Republicans.

The debate was brief, occasionally impassioned and set a standard of sorts for public theater, particularly at a time when private negotiations continue among the administration and key lawmakers on the deficit cuts Republicans have demanded.

The bill "will and must fail," said Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., the House Ways and Means Committee chairman who noted he had helped write the very measure he was criticizing.  (of course there's more at the link)

Republicans.  Dumber than dirt, or dumber than stumps?  You decide.  Their problem, as they see it with destroying Medicare and Medicaid isn't one of simply the fact that they want to take the money and give it to themselves and their cronies, as opposed to spending it on American seniors, disabled and needy.  Their problem is simply messaging.
